Tamborine Mountain RSS Feed

Tamborine Mountain is a plateau in the Gold Coast Hinterland, about an hour’s drive south from Queensland’s capital Brisbane, or an hour's drive west from the golden beaches of the Gold Coast.

The Tamborine Mountain community is centred around the three main villages of Mount Tamborine in the south, Eagle Heights in the east and North Tamborine to the north west.

Because Tamborine Mountain is about 560m above sealevel, the area is a great escape from the heat in summer, and higher than average rainfall means that the whole mountain is a wonderful rainforest environment, offering superb hideaway accommodation opportunities, great bushwalking and other attractions like relaxing restaurants and wineries.

Being central and above the Gold Coast Hinterland means there are plenty of sweeping views to be enjoyed in every direction, to the Gold Coast and all around the Scenic Rim. You will also find fruit orchards, avocado groves and plenty of organic produce.

Tamborine Mountain also has also a few galleries, eateries and other tourist shops at Eagle Heights, aptly called the Gallery Walk.

Climate

The climate is subtropical, with the annual rainfall of about 1600 mm falling mainly in the summer months. Maximum temperatures vary between 18 °C in winter and 25 °C in summer.

Bushwalking

Tamborine is the site of Queensland’s first National Park, Tamborine National Park, and is well-known for bushwalking tracks in the lush rainforest full of cliffs, streams, waterfalls and wildlife.

You will find magnificent eucalyptus tress and plenty of other remaining rainforest vergetation, thanks to the above average rainfall.

Tamborine National Park is quite fragmented because the area was settled so long ago, and the main sections are:

  • Cedar Creek
  • Joalah (Curtis Falls Walk – Joalah Circuit)
  • The Knoll (Cameron Falls)
  • Lepidozamia Grove
  • MacDonald Park
  • Palm Grove (Palm Grove Circuit – Jenyn’s Falls Circuit – Curtis Road Track)
  • Witches Falls (Witches Falls Circuit – Beacon Road Track)
